More than 430,000 customers switched their gas and electricity supplier last month – with 30% of them switching from a large supplier to a small or mid-tier supplier.
This is an increase of 19 percent on last May and takes the total number of switches in 2017 to over 2.2 million.
Lawrence Slade, Chief Executive of Energy UK, said: “More than 2.2 million customers have already switched this year, and we want to see this increasing engagement in the market continue. We’re looking forward to working with the new British government to ensure competition continues to flourish and ensure consumers get a fair energy deal.”
Tina Tietjen, the independent chairman of the Energy Switch Guarantee, added: “It is encouraging that so many consumers shopped around for a better energy deal despite the record high temperatures in May <in many parts of the UK>
“It only takes a few minutes to find out if you’re on the best deal for you. I urge all consumers to get in touch with their
supplier or use a price comparison website to make sure they’re on the best deal.
“There are savings to be made and Energy Switch Guarantee provides customers with extra reassurance that the process will be simple, speedy and safe.”
