Aarufield turbine expert Andrew wins free Scottish wind farm

The best spoof caption to the photograph of NASA astronaut and Expedition-51 commander Peggy Whitson – which was head and shoulders above the other entries – was:

“When I said that I’d give my right eye to win a wind turbine, I wasn’t joking…”

This entry was submitted by Andrew Bellamy, Co-founder and Director of the Aarufield Group of wind turbine inspection and advisory engineers, who is based near North Berwick.

As a result, he wins a free Scottish wind farm. The scale model turbine – with a blade-tip height of 0.5 metres – is now on schedule for delivery by road along the A1.

Andrew said: “Over the last 20 years, Aarufield have performed more than 20,000 turbine inspections, typically providing end of warranty and routine condition reports and recommendations.

“In the UK, we’ve been expanding rapidly over the last few years with some of our key specialties being blades and independent end of warranty inspections of drivetrain both onshore and offshore.

“We also provide some of the most experienced wind turbine engineering specialists in the industry to support projects with technology selection, due diligence and performance optimisation.

“Most of our technical projects are organised from our office in East Lothian.

We’re currently hiring** to bring further experienced engineers/technical team in Scotland, as well as graduate positions.

“We also have specialists in investment strategy and renewables portfolio management who have been directly involved in guiding some of the largest investment funds into UK and European onshore and offshore wind projects
