The University of Aberdeen has been listed as the best place in Scotland to study engineering, according to an influential national report.

The Complete University Guide has listed the university as the best in Scotland in its General Engineering category, bringing it into the top 10 in the UK for the subject for the first time since 2010.

General Engineering is studied by all undergraduate engineering students for the first two years, providing them with a solid foundation in their chosen specialism.

The Guide also listed the university’s civil engineering programme as 7th in the UK rising from 13th, while electrical and electronic engineering jumped from 35th to 16th

Chemical engineering and mechanical engineering remain in the top 20 in the UK at 16th and 17th respectively.

Igor Guz, Head of the School of Engineering at Aberdeen University, said: “I am delighted with our strong performance in the Complete University Guide, which has listed our General Engineering as the best in Scotland, and all of our engineering disciplines in the top 20 in the UK.

“This is testament to the efforts of colleagues who continue to work tirelessly to deliver the high quality teaching and research that the School of Engineering is renowned for, and which continues to produce high-calibre graduates.

“The fact that engineering programmes continue to score highly in the Guide in terms of graduate prospects is indicative of the fact that engineering skills are in high demand, and our status as a top engineering university means that Aberdeen continues to be an attractive choice for prospective students.”
