
The much-mooted and long-awaited expansion of the obsolete and over-crowded Aberdeen harbour has been dragging on for so long it could out-last the multi-generational legal case fought over decades in Dicken’s Bleak House.
Most big-city ports moved out of their crowded waterfronts decades ago to bigger quaysides further down the river when bulk containerisation of the shipping industry became standard in the middle of the 19th century.
But not Aberdeen harbour.
However, on the plus-side, they have managed to build (at least) one new harbour-side facility – the spanking new Harbour Expansion visitor centre at Aberdeen South Harbour.

It’s a pity that there’s not much actual harbour expansion to see…
