AND FINALLY: Arise Sir Alistair, Laird of SSE

Perth-based utility giant SSE tirelessly blows its own PR trumpet on its corporate website, about how it sponsors this and sponsors that…

SSE also frequently boasts about how many people it employs, how many graduates it recruits, how many apprentices it trains…

So far, so corporately routine. But curiously, it also trumpets how much corporate tax it pays,  and fully puffs out its company chest about its ‘Fair Tax’ charter mark.

Either Chief Executive Alistair Phillips-Davies (rightly) has a particular bee in his bunnet about the many American multinational corporations which exploit UK and other tax loopholes to pay peanuts (instead of taxes) to the UK Chancellor. Or he is hoping to land a gong and collect an OBE – or better, a knighthood – in the next honours list.

He sadly missed out in Dave’s dodgy list when Cameron quit last month. Perhaps Mrs T May help next time round…
