AND FINALLY: Sex education for energy scientists

Sex educationLike ‘health ‘n safety’, it has long been a vexed question for policy makers, employers, trade unions and teachers/ scientists alike: What is the difference between ‘education’ and ‘training’?

Both term and concept are often used synonymously and inter-change-ably in both spheres, as well as in the private sector and in the trade union fraternity.

Helpfully Prof. Anne Glover, the expat-Scot who is Chief Scientific Advisor to the President of the EU Commission, recently provided an enlightening definition of the two concepts.

Speaking at the Converge Challenge awards ceremony held recently at Heriot-Watt university in Edinburgh, she explained:  “I was discussing the concepts of ‘education’ and ‘training’ with colleagues in Brussels recently and one said:

“I have a 16-year old teenage daughter. I want her to be educated about sex, ..”
