A Glasgow-based company has become the 200th firm across the world to achieve OPITO approval after being successfully passed by the skills organisation for the oil and gas industry to provide essential induction training to enhance the safety of offshore workers.
Recently-opened Clyde Training Solutions is the only dedicated maritime and offshore training centre in the Central Belt
It provides multiple classrooms, dedicated deep-water pool, HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training module), and full fire training ground complete with training stack and a helideck.
The company has achieved the OPITO standard for delivering the body’s Minimum Industry Training Standard (MIST). Holding the MIST certificate gives workers the confidence that all their peers share the same level of safety training offshore.
OPITO – a not-for-profit organisation wholly owned by the oil and gas industry – aims is to deliver common standards to the global workforce which improve safety and competency. OPITO training standards and workforce development frameworks are currently used by employers in over 45 countries worldwide

Clyde Training Solutions’ director Colin McMurray said: “We are honoured and delighted to become the 200th OPITO-approved training centre.
“Our dedicated maritime and offshore training centre is the first of its type in Scotland outside of the Grampian region, to hold this accreditation, and is testament to all the hard work our highly skilled team has invested since we first opened our doors six months ago”
