Conoco confirms North Sea job cuts

ConocoPhillips' Aberdeen officeThere are growing fears in the workforce that a review of its N. Sea operations may lead to big job cuts at ConocoPhillips, which has around 1,000 staff employees and 600 contract workers in the UK.

The company – which recently launched a review of its UK business – confirmed that this is expected to result in ‘some’ redundancies but did not provide any numbers this may involve.

A spokesman for ConocoPhillips said: “Like other operators in the North Sea, we are focused on improving the operating efficiency and production outlook for our business.

“We have started a consultation process with staff relating to organisational restructuring to establish a model to drive our business forward in an efficient and sustainable manner.

“The design of the organisation is ongoing and although we do anticipate some redundancies, at this stage the actual number has not yet been defined”.
