The Scottish Government published consultation responses which sought views on the eligibility of Energy Intensive Industries (EII) to be exempt from indirect costs associated with the Renewables Obligation (RO). Results indicate that the current eligibility threshold (20% electricity intensity) create competitive distortions, with respondents supporting lowering the threshold in line with options proposed by BEIS. Respondents also suggested that decreasing the electricity intensity threshold could have an adverse impact on other electricity bill payers, and divergence from the UK exemption scheme could have further negative impacts on the energy market.
