A Dundee manufacturing firm has invested £300,000 in new equipment to target new business opportunities in the N. Sea oil and gas sector.
GA Sliding Head, part of Pryme Group, has already received additional work orders with clients because of these improved capabilities.
The company is on track to increase turnover from £2.35 million to £2.6 million in the year ending April 2018 year-end. It aims to nearly double turnover to £5 million by 2020 after extending its existing machining capability.
Two new Star CNC lathes with high-frequency turning option have been added to the company’s suite of equipment and will bring a range of benefits, including greater speed and efficiency for client projects.
As well as an increase in the maximum diameter size of the sliding head from 33mm to 35mm, the new machinery will allow the business to cater for ‘exotic’ materials including super duplex, titanium Iconel and other nickel alloys.
With a total of 26 CNC machines available, the company has one of the largest arrays of star sliding head machines in the UK and can offer up to nine-axis machining capability in a range of materials.
GA Sliding head – which currently employs 36 people – provides individual sub-contract services from machining to plating, through to full turnkey supply and testing. It works with both small local manufacturers through to large multinational companies shipping parts throughout the UK and overseas.
