Step Change in Safety and Oil & Gas UK have extended the deadline for nominations to the UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards to 5pm on Friday 28 February – that’s today – in response to high demand from potential entrants.
This year’s awards ceremony, principally sponsored by Maersk Oil UK, will be held on Wednesday 30 April at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Two of the eight categories are Preventative Safety Action, for quick-thinkers who help prevent potential incidents, and Most Promising Individual, for up-and-coming young people showing great promise. Last year’s Most Promising Individual Award was won by Marc Brankin from Stork Technical Services, who said the ceremony was one of the best days of his professional career.
Brankin said:
“The UK Oil and Gas Industry Safety Awards helped my personal development, improved my future opportunities and has been excellent for my platform and the companies I work with.”
Oil & Gas UK’s health, safety & employment issues director, Robert Paterson notes that every year the event continues to inspire new standards of improved safety, and many of these contributions are practiced by today’s UK offshore workforce.
“This event is a fantastic opportunity to not only reward ideas, but to celebrate and share them. I’m pleased to say we’ll be extending the deadline for nominations and I would urge anyone thinking of putting in a late entry to do so as soon as possible,” Mr Paterson said.
Step Change in Safety Team Leader Les Linklater hopes the extended deadline will call in more of the top safety representatives, safety leaders and bright, energetic people moving up in the industry.
Linklater said:
“On award day we want to be surrounded by the great and good of the industry, including safety leaders of the future, people who’ve intervened to prevent incidents and all companies leading the way in safety innovation.
“Offshore safety has improved so much over the last 16 years and these awards are all about showcasing the positive things that are going on. It doesn’t matter what your role is or whether you’re a leader, safety rep or trainee – if you’re playing your part to keep safety at the top of the agenda, we want to hear from you, and urge you to get involved and enter the awards today.”
