The Edinburgh-based FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility has appointed marine specialist Dr. Jamie Grimwade as its new Business Development Manager.
Dr Grimwade’s role is to further develop FloWave’s growing pipeline of commercial and academic test clients in wave, tidal, offshore wind and vessel design.
Jamie comes with a wealth of experience within the marine renewables industry, having spent 10 years at the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec) in Blyth, Northumberland, where he was instrumental in attracting significant new business opportunities in his role as Principal Marine Specialist.
The FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility is a world-unique circular test tank to allow testing of devices and arrays in simulated conditions of both waves and current.
Because the tank is circular and therefore non-directional, waves and currents in the tank can act in any combination and in any relative direction across the large central volume 17 metres in diameter and 2m deep.
Building on the techniques developed for the 100th scale curved wave tank at the University of Edinburgh over the last twelve years, FloWave’s 220 square metre test area is large enough to accommodate small arrays of devices
Stuart Brown, Chief Executive of FloWave TT, said: “We are delighted to make a top quality appointment like Jamie to further enhance our existing team.
“Thanks to our world-unique technical design and the hard work of our team, the FloWave tank is well on track to become the ‘go to’ facility for fully representative onshore testing of offshore conditions for the various offshore energy sectors and naval architecture.
