UK-headquartered FoundOcean secured the final foundations for three of Europe’s largest offshore wind farms in the second quarter, which once operational will have a total installed capacity of over one gigawatt.
FoundOcean grouted the 160th transition piece foundation on Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm in April 2014. At 576MW, it will be capable of powering up to 400,000 homes(1). BASF’s MasterFlow 9500 Exagrout was selected for its distinctive properties.
It has nearly 50 years’ experience of subsea and offshore foundation grouting for the global energy construction industries and also provides life extension solutions for offshore structures which includes structural inspection, repair and maintenance services, marine growth control products, freespan correction grout bags, and pipeline/cable support and protection services.
Hans Kahle, Managing Director of RWE Innogy´s Offshore Logistics Company OLC said:
“The ability to mix and pump MasterFlow 9500 at low temperatures was an important attribute, as this bad weather capability went hand in hand with the improved significant wave capability of the Friedrich Ernestine vessel.”
Add to this the 40-tripod, 200MW Trianel Wind Farm Borkum whose final foundation was secured on the 15th May, and the 48-jacket, 295MW Nordsee Ost wind farm completed in March 2014. The total number of foundations recently secured will help power nearly 750,000 homes.
Jim Bell, Managing Director of FoundOcean comments:
“Our 50 years of repeatedly delivering leading innovative and reliable solutions to the offshore industry, reassures our clients that we are the most reliable and safest solution provider available; which helps us maintain its position as the world’s leader in its field.”
