GE Renewable Energy announced on 16 January that its grid solutions business has been awarded a multi-million-dollar contract for the design, supply, construction and commissioning of onshore and offshore wind substations for Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm.
The project is owned by EDF Renewables and ESB and is located 12 miles off the Fife coast. The 400/220kV onshore substation will be built on a greenfield site.
Neart na Gaoithe is expected to offset more than 400,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year and provide enough electricity to power more than 375,000 Scottish homes. It is expected to be operational in 2023.
