BayWa r.e – the German renewable energy developer and wholesaler –  has taken over a Scottish renewables’ services provider for an undisclosed price.

Based in Scotland and established in 2009, Becon Consultancy provides services for high voltage maintenance and switching services, landscaping maintenance and civil groundworks for renewable energy schemes in the UK.

Oliver Niedhofer, Managing Director of BayWa r.e Operation Service Limited, commented: “The acquisition of Becon Consultancy is a natural progression for us and further strengthens our scope of services in the UK by adding specialist civil groundworks, high voltage electrical services and landscaping expertise.

“BayWa r.e is one of a few service providers in the UK, and globally, which is able to offer comprehensive wind and solar services. This latest acquisition forms part of a programme of ongoing investment designed to provide our clients with the very best technical services, digital systems and the most experienced and safest operators in the industry.”

BayWa r.e has seen strong growth in the UK market and has grown its serviced portfolio to over 1 GW of utility-scale wind and solar projects. This includes the operation and maintenance of the biggest solar farm in Northern Ireland and most recently a two-year contract for the management of solar plants on behalf of METKA EGN.

Stuart Beattie, Managing Director of Becon Consultancy, said: “We’re very pleased to join the BayWa r.e group, which is a perfect fit for us.

“We have the same customer service driven focus, commitment to developing new technical solutions and an uncompromising approach to health and safety”.
