This year’s British Renewable Energy Awards will be held in the Savoy in London’s Strand and SgurrEnergy, whose UK Headquarters is in Glasgow, has been shortlisted for the ‘Project’ category. It is intended for a company that has developed an outstanding building-integrated, on-site or stand-alone project.
There will be strong competition against Eco2, Myriad Solar PV and TEG Environmental who are also in the running for it. The British REA are probably the most prominent occasion for the UK renewable energy industry, recognising and celebrating the achievements of companies, communities and individuals who have done something remarkable in renewables over the past year.
Also in line for an award is Edinburgh-based Richard Yemm who is Chief Executive Officer of Pelamis Wave Power. He will be in the ‘Champion’ category which is for an individual who deserves recognition in the sector.
From a background in the wind industry, Richard founded Pelamis Wave Power in 1998 and has since then made a long-standing and profound contribution to the renewables industry and wave energy in particular. He has spent the last 16 years developing and commercialising the Pelamis machine from the drawing board to the board room.
Under his leadership, Pelamis achieved the first generation electricity to the grid from offshore waves, Scotland’s first export order for wave energy technology, and the UK’s first sales for wave energy converters to utility companies.
He will be against John Baldwin, CNG Services, Ian Burrow of RBS/NatWest, Michael Davies, Eversheds and Stuart Elmes of Viridian Solar.
This year’s dinner is sponsored by Towergate Insurance and the event will take place on 12th June 2014. For tickets please go to REA
