
Horizon Nuclear Power – UK subsidiary of Japanese industrial giant Hitachi – has appointed Duncan Hawthorne as its new chief executive.
Hawthorne was formerly manager of the Scottish Nuclear power plant at Hunterston, near Largs, before he moved to Canada’s Bruce Power.
A Scots born and educated engineer,Hawthorne served as Chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Atlanta Centre and until recently was President of WANO’s Governing Board.
His contribution to the Canadian energy sector was recognised when he was awarded Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada.
He has been on Horizon’s Board of Directors since 2013.
