Holyrood MPs welcome Callander hydro energy and Glasgow fuel-poverty scheme

Holyrood logoHolyrood MPs have welcome put down motions welcoming the creation of a new community hydro scheme in Perthshire and a new scheme to help OAPs in Glasgow to tackle fuel-poverty

The motion by SNP MSP Bruce Crawford, Leader of the House, commends the Callander Community Hydro scheme, set up with the assistance of Perth-based Scottish & Southern Energy and the Forestry Commission.

He said: “The Callander hydro-energy system will use the plethora of natural resources available and will bring benefits to the area’s community and businesses and – thanks to everyone involved – the project is now ready to begin producing clean renewable energy.

“I hope that communities across Scotland will be inspired by this exemplary renewable energy project.”

The motion has been backed by a swathe of SNP MPs in Holyrood.

Meanwhile, the motion by Labour MSP Anne McTaggart welcomes the Affordable Warmth Dividend for Glasgow’s Older Residents scheme and notes that for the fourth year running, Glasgow council is offering every resident aged 80 and over £100 to help heat their homes during the winter.
