Global information technology and consulting company Wipro Ltd plans to double the size of its East Kilbride workforce and expand its presence in Aberdeen, creating more than 90 new jobs in Scotland.

The study – carried out by the Warwick Institute for Employment in Research – also provides the following further full gender employment analysis by industrial sector; –

This will involve improving the efficiency with which the industry operates, increasing production of oil and gas by one third, and boosting jobs in an industry that already employs 450,000. Whilst short-term prospects are good, with investment at record levels of £14 billion, the UK Continental Shelf faces unprecedented challenges.

There are opportunities in Generation, Power Distribution and Contracting at 50 locations across the UK, including Inverness, Perth, Glasgow, Reading, Portsmouth and Cardiff.

SSE offers potential candidates the chance to achieve qualifications and earn a salary at the same time as gaining practical, hands-on work experience. Every year since 2007 over 100 new apprentices have joined the programme.

Increasing recovery of UK oil and gas will enhance energy security, support thousands of jobs and provide billions in increased tax revenues. The UK oil and gas sector already supports around 350,000 jobs, and last year attracted a record £14 billion of capital expenditure as well as supplying around half of the UK’s primary energy demand.

A major new report has found renewable energy companies in Scotland are in need of more engineers to fulfil their future ambitions.

The oil and gas survey follows hot on the heels of jobs boom forecast for Scotland’s renewables industry – where more than half (50%) of employers expect to increase recruitment this year – as reported earlier this week in the Scottish Energy News (See JOBS page at www.ScottishEnergyNews.com )

Of the 540 companies surveyed, more than half (54%) said they would be looking to employ even more people in the next 12 months, with a further 42% saying their employment would stay the same – and only 1.6% expecting it to decrease.
