Kite Power – the Dumfries-shire-based company developing kite power generation technology and the only UK company active in the high altitude wind power sector – has appointed a new Delivery Director.
Colin Palmer, who had until recently worked for SSE, will be responsible for the development and delivery of Kite Power’s pioneering 500kW power system and the company’s first onshore and offshore kite power generation projects.
At SSE, Palmer, 37, was the Beatrice offshore windfarm project manager for nearly five years and was also asset manager on the Forewind (Dogger Bank) offshore windfarm development. Previously, he worked at Airtricity in the UK, Ireland and the USA.
Last year, Kite Power secured £5 million of new investment from E.ON, Schlumberger and Shell Technology Ventures.
Palmer – who has a Masters in Engineering Project Management from Strathclyde University – said: “I believe the Kite Power product we are developing has significant potential to be a disruptive, low-cost, wind energy technology and we have talented people here to deliver it. “
