South Lanarkshire Council has granted planning permission to Banks Renewables to expand the size of the turbines at its planned 75MW Kype Muir 2 onshore wind farm.
In the meeting on 29 January, the planning committee voted in favour of an increase of the maximum tip height from 152m to 220m and to increase the operational life of the wind farm from 25 to 30 years.
The committee meeting report said: “the increase in turbine height was not considered to have any significant adverse impact in relation to the previous planning consent and that it accorded with national policy and the relevant provisions of the Development Plan subject to the imposition of the recommended environmental conditions. The proposal to extend the operational lifespan of the wind farm to 30 years was also considered acceptable and would result in an increase in the renewable energy generated from the proposal.”
