Motherwell Bridge has been awarded a project in China, opening up a new market for the Lanarkshire-based business. The engineering firm’s Clayton Walker Gasholder division has secured an order from Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. for a new 150,000m³ Wiggins dry seal type blast furnace gasholder (also known as a gasometer).
The gasholder will form an integral part of the steel making facility at Baoshan’s steel plant located in Shanghai.
Motherwell Bridge will be working in conjunction with Baosteel Engineering & Technology to provide design and engineering expertise, provision of key materials and supervision of the construction.
The gasholder will function as a storage facility and pressure regulator for the blast furnace gas distribution network and cater for increased blast furnace gas generation.
The 18 month project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
Russell Ward, Managing Director of Motherwell Bridge commented:
“Winning this contract in China provides Motherwell Bridge with a fantastic opportunity to enter the world’s fastest growing economy.
“The competition was fierce, but Baoshan Iron & Steel recognised our expertise, worldwide reputation and the many advantages that our services provide.
“We are looking forward to working with our collaboration partners Baosteel Engineering & Technology and we will use this award as a platform to further develop our business throughout China.”
