National Galleries Scotland ends BP partnership

National Galleries Scotland has ended its relationship with BP in response to the climate emergency, Friends of the Earth Scotland reported on 11 November.

After 2019, the BP Portrait Award will no longer tour to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery “in its present form”.

The Scottish National Portrait Gallery is the second Edinburgh institution to reject fossil fuel sponsors this year, following the Edinburgh Science Festival’s announcement in April that it will not accept sponsorship from oil companies. Similar announcements have also been made by the Royal Shakespeare Company and UK National Theatre.
