The British Geological Survey and Heriot-Watt University have today joined forces to create the Sir Charles Lyell Centre for earth and marine technology.
Jointly funded by UK and Scottish funders, Natural Environment Research Council, Scottish Funding Council and Heriot-Watt University, the purpose built £17m complex at Heriot Watt’s Riccarton campus in Edinburgh will harness research central to geoscience, life science, computing, mathematics and engineering.
Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael, MP, said today: “The creation of a new research centre at Heriot Watt University can only enhance Scotland’s reputation for world leading research.
“Bringing together knowledge and expertise from the British Geological Survey and Heriot Watt University with UK research council funding can only enhance Scotland’s research base in areas where we already have world leading expertise, such as life sciences and engineering.”
