New manager hired to lead 115-year old Aberdeen marine and ship surveyor firm into future

An Aberdeen-based firm of marine consultants and ship surveyors to the marine and energy sectors,has appointed Graeme Alexander as its new general manager.

Graeme Alexander – who has more than 30 years sea-going and shore experience in the USA, Europe and Middle East – will take responsibility for leading Pirie & Smith’s activities across the globe.

His appointment follows a 12-month period of international expansion for the firm –  which was set up in 1904 – which has seen it establish representative agencies in Thailand, India, Singapore, Dubai and Europe.

Pirie & Smith also undertakes charter surveys, safety and technical audits on energy industry vessels and rigs on behalf of major oil companies, owners and charters.

  • Aberdeen-based Swire Oilfield Services has acquired specialist aviation service company Gordon Engineering Services (GES) to expand its aviation services across its North Sea operations.

    Phil Gordon, former owner and founder of GES will remain with the business as a manager supporting the aviation and fabrication division.
