A 60MW wind farm has been commissioned in Utah USA this week with technical support from Scottish renewable energy consultancy, Sgurr Energy.
Part of the Aberdeen oil services conglomerate Wood Group, Sgurr Energy provided owner’s engineer services and technical due diligence for developer sPower on the Latigo Wind Farm, situated along the foothills of the Abajo Mountains, northwest of Monticello.
The scope of work included contracting support, review of the project’s civil and electrical design, construction monitoring and technical advice in support of substantial completion. The work scope also included a detailed technology review of the GE 2X wind turbine in its first commercial application.
Construction of the 27 GE 2.3MW turbines was completed in December 2015 and the wind farm began generating energy in January 2016.
Bill Follett,Principle Consultant, said: “Working alongside sPower to complete this project in a short timescale has been rewarding and this experience has allowed us to continue to support them in their continued expansion into the onshore wind sector.”
The 60MW wind farm is expected to produce enough energy annually to power up to 14,000 homes.
