NEWSFLASH: Iconic Longannet coal-fired power station to close

longannet_720x4001.00pm update

Scottish Power has confirmed that it will close its iconic Longannet coal-fired power station within a year.

More than 250 direct-employed workers will be made redundant and up to 1,000 more jobs in west Fife could also be a risk after the company failed to agree a deal with National Grid.

Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing is expected to make a full statement to Holyrood MPs in the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday.
