Figures published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show that turnover for the Scottish renewable energy sector almost totalled £6bn in 2017.
Turnover was greater in Scotland than any other area of the UK, attributed largely to the growth in onshore wind. Turnover from onshore wind activity in the UK fell to £2.8bn in 2017 from £3.3bn in 2016, driven by a decrease in turnover from onshore wind manufacturers.
Despite multi-billion sales, the data show a fall in employment in the sector, with job numbers peaking at 23,900 in 2016 but dropping to 21,400 in 2017.
