A Peterhead-based surface preparation and protective coatings firm has landed a major contract with a leading back-deck solutions firm totalling a six figure sum.
Davidsons Blast Services (DBS), a family run business, undertook the project by applying the specialist service of blast cleaning and application of a three coat topside paint system on Maritime Development’s 75-tonne portable vertical lay and multiple reel drive systems.
This 75-tonne PVLS system will support installation of risers and flowlines in a major North Sea Development throughout 2015/16, working as part of an integrated MDL spread consisting of a 4-track tensioner and 350-tonne multiple RDS, as well as horizontal and vertical deck deflectors.
All sections of the structures were prepared and coated in accordance with the customer’s bespoke paint specification, which included coatings integrity testing verified by DBS’s in-house NACE qualified inspection team.
The success of the protective coatings project was largely due to the climate controlled paint booths allowing quick turnaround times, methodical planning of the blasting and painting schedule affording no downtime lost and highly proficient coatings team ensuring DBS’s right-first-time approach.
Nicola Harris, DBS Commercial Director, commented: “This was the first structure of its kind for us and we were honoured to have worked on such a prestige project. We have been working closely with MDL for a number of years, and this is the largest project to date we’ve been awarded by the firm.”
