Q. Why does the Scottish Government pay for recruitment advs on Scottish Energy News?

Careers signpost

A. Because it provides the best price** and the best value for money.**

Online readership rockets to record high of 45,000** unique visitors per month at Scottish Energy News website

Other prospective employers in the public sector across Scotland – and in local government – can also benefit from this probative ‘value for money’.

In the private sector, this is simply known as ‘the best price’.

See for example: Top Job: Chair of Crown Estate Scotland

In contrast, the latest six-monthly figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation show that every regional daily newspaper in the UK experienced a decline in circulation between January and June of 2016, when compared to the first half of 2015.

  • In Scotland, sales of The Scotsman slumped by 14.6% to an annual daily average of 20,304.
  • Sales fell by 11.6% at the Glasgow Herald to average 30,402 a day.
  • And even in Aberdeen – which has traditionally benefitted from a pan-Highland rural hinterland – sales also dropped by 7.2% to a daily average of 54,270 at the Press & Journal.

If – as is likely – the advertising rates charged by these companies have not reduced as sales and circulations continue to fall, this means that companies looking to promote their goods, expand their markets and/ or recruit staff in energy-related sectors are simply paying MORE for LESS.
