Rachel kicks off Countdown to Aberdeen oil engineers’ achievement awards 2015

TV presenter and mathematician Rachel Riley has been confirmed as host of this year’s annual awards by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

The event is due to held on 12 March in Aberdeen. Riley is one of the on-screen members of TV’s Countdown programme.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association whose members are engaged in energy resources development and production. SPE serves more than 124,000 members in 135 countries worldwide through a network of 190 local sections and 295 student chapters.

The Aberdeen branch is the society’s largest in the UK outside London. Ian Phillips, SPE Aberdeen board member and chief executive of the Oil & Gas Innovation Centre, said: “Rachel’s background in mathematics and technology has great synergy with many elements of the offshore industry and we look forward to seeing her on the evening.”
