A new report from SmartestEnergy has concluded that Scotland was responsible for the majority of new independent generation in 2018, contributing 276MW of the 329MW added in GB. Published on 14 May, SmartestEnergy’s Energy Entrepreneurs 2019 report found that the Scottish Government has continued to support onshore wind in its energy strategy, resulting in five major new onshore wind farms coming online in 2018. SmartestEnergy also concluded that growth in independent renewables in GB has stalled due to cuts in government subsidies. However, the total capacity of independent renewables generation has grown to 14.1GW from 4.7GW in 2012.
