The Scot-Govt has approved a 15-turbine extension to a Highlands wind-farm owned by Perth-based utility SSE.
SSE has been exploring the potential for a 56-MW expansion of the existing plant since 2013 and in June 2015 submitted a Section 36 planning application for its Gordonbush wind farm.
The company later agreed to progress its proposals in line with the recommendations of Highland Council which wanted one of the originally proposed turbines removed and the reduction in height of another.
The existing site has been a part of the East Sutherland community for over five years now and its 35 turbines have been generating enough renewable energy each year to power around 60,000 homes.
The Gordonbush wind farm has also provided the communities of Brora, Golspie, Helmsdale and Rogart with more than £1 million of funding for local projects.
