Renewable energy consultancy, SgurrEnergy, has met with Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, UK secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, to discuss and demonstrate the company’s role in the offshore wind-ustry.

Discussing in detail the company’s pioneering remote sensing device, Galion Lidar, SgurrEnergy took Dr Cable through ground-breaking offshore wind data and the implications that this has for the industry.

Ian Irvine, Technical Director and joint founder of SgurrEnergy, said: “SgurrEnergy has dedicated the last six years to the development and innovation of technology to strengthen the wind industry, with a particular interest in wind measurement and characterisation, using our Galion Lidar technology. “

Dr Vince Cable said: “We are already, in the UK, the world leader in offshore wind, with more capacity than any other country in the world and, of course, lessons have been learned around that.Britain has the opportunity to be the world leader, bar none, in offshore renewable technology and I think this is a tremendous thing to be able to aim for.”

Now part of the Wood Group, Sgurr Energy launched its Galion Lidar laser-based wind profiler device for wind speed measurement and directional data capture in 2008.
