Scottish Government criticised for supporting a recent fracking license renewal

Scottish Liberal Democrat energy spokesperson Liam McArthur has criticised the decision of the Scottish government to extend Ineos’s fracking license for a further 12 months in the Falkirk area.

Published on 2 July, a recent letter from Scottish Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse confirmed the decision to “extend the initial term of the licence for a further 12 months,” leading McArthur to call on ministers to stop “dragging their feet on a real legislative ban […] when we should be committing to an all-out assault on Scotland ‘s emissions”.

Mark Ruskell MSP described the decision as “very disappointing […] It’s time for the Scottish Government to commit to some meaningful action on the climate emergency”.
