First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on 3 September the Programme for Government that sets out the Scottish Government’s next steps to tackle climate change.
Measures include an investment of more than £500mn to decarbonise the transport sector, including Scotland’s railways by 2035, and to make the Highlands and Islands the world’s first net zero aviation region by 2040.
A ‘Green New Deal’ and creation of a £3bn package of investments to attract green finance to Scotland is also included.
