Scottish oilfield services firm NXG has appointed a former Weatherford UK managing director to its senior management team.

With nearly 40 years’ oil and gas industry expertise, Ian McCartney takes up the new role as non-executive chairman.

He is a former vice-chairman of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), North Sea Chapter and was Weatherford managing director for UK, Netherlands and Denmark for eight years before becoming UK chairman for 18 months.

NXG has recently invested more than £2 million in new offices at Altens, Aberdeen, and in a manufacturing facility near Peterhead. The company also has an operation in the Middle East.

McCartney will play a key strategic role in supporting NXG’s plans for international growth in the manufacture and supply of products and services to the drilling sector.
