EXCLUSIVE by Scottish Energy News
A Scottish power company which operates a UK electricity ‘exchange ‘n mart’ for generators of distributed electricity plants for private sector clients – such as factories, hotels and supermarkets – has agreed a commercial partnership with a New York stock exchange-listed counterpart.
The UK operation of Ameresco Inc – which also provides energy supply management solutions – has teamed up with Flexitricity UK, which is based near Edinburgh’s international conference centre.
Together, Ameresco and Flexitricity aim to provide enhanced demand side response (DSR) services to Ameresco’s industrial and commercial customers in the UK and across Europe.
These will include Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR), Capacity Market, Triad avoidance, Frequency Response, Demand Turn-Up and Enhanced Frequency Control services.
Set up in 2000, Ameresco employs more than 1,000 people in the UK and USA.
Derek Dixon, Vice-President, Ameresco, explained: “This is a significant and exciting addition to provide enhanced capabilities to our customers. We expect that by partnering with Flexitricity, we will be able to deploy the UK’s widest and most sophisticated demand side response solutions available.”
Ron Ramage, Flexitricity chief executive, added: “We’re delighted to have this opportunity to work with Ameresco and their UK and EU customers. Their reputation, commercial approach and cultural fit dovetails with ours and our blend of capabilities will deliver real customer benefit.”
Flexitricity was recently acquired by the Alpiq Group, a Swiss electricity and energy service provider.
