Scottish Renewables published a report on 18 March concluding that marine energy can play a major role in decarbonising the UK.
The report, UK Marine Energy 2019: A New Industry, detailed how the UK is a “global leader in marine energy” with predictions of 22,600 jobs in the sector by 2040. Scottish Renewables highlighted that the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney is among the world’s leading test centres for marine energy. Furthermore, of the twenty marine energy research universities in Great Britain, seven are situated in Scotland.
Scottish Renewables urged a route to market to support sustained private sector investment.
