Sir Frank Chapman to provide an insight into the continuing evolution of the energy industry at RGU guest lecture

Renowned energy industry leader, Sir Frank Chapman, will deliver a guest lecture at Robert Gordon University (RGU) next week.

The public lecture entitled ‘Seizing Opportunity: The Continuing Evolution of the Energy Industry’ will be delivered by Sir Frank Chapman, Chairman of Golar Limited and former Chief Executive of BG Group, on Monday, November 17 at RGU’s Riverside East building.

Sir Frank Chapman webOriginally presented as the 2012 Cadman Lecture at the Energy Institute, the RGU guest lecture will cover the initial experiments and the development of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry, its subsequent globalisation, and the shifts in the LNG business paradigm pioneered by BG Group plc, where Sir Frank Chapman was Chief Executive for 12 years, retiring in 2013.

Sir Frank Chapman has worked in the international energy industry for some 40 years where he has been involved in the leadership of major international upstream and downstream oil and gas businesses.

He began his career working for BP, followed by 18 years with Shell predominantly on international assignments, before joining British Gas in 1996 as Managing Director of Exploration and Production. He was then was appointed as Chief Executive of BG Group plc in 2000.

Following his retirement from BG Group, Sir Frank has taken up a new role as Chairman of Golar LNG Limited, formerly an LNG shipping operator which is now shaping a strategy to provide integrated LNG services including floating liquefaction.

Sir Frank was knighted in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to the oil and gas industries. In 2012, he was presented with the coveted Energy Institute’s Cadman Award for outstanding services to the petroleum industry and was awarded the 2012 Brazilian Business Personality of the Year for his services to the development of Brazil’s Santos Basin.

In June 2013, Sir Frank was awarded an honorary Doctorate from RGU for his services to the petroleum industry.

“To have someone of Sir Frank’s calibre deliver a repeat of the 2012 Cadman Lecture which he presented to the Energy Institute is a huge privilege for the university and will be of significant interest to our students, staff and the wider Aberdeen energy community.

“Sir Frank has extensive expertise in the development of the LNG industry, including the creation of a unique and highly successful global LNG business model for BG Group, and so is expertly placed to provide us with an overview of the sector’s evolution.”
