New figures have shown that the number of community-owned renewable energy projects in Scotland has surged by 68% since 2011.
The figures, from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre, show that the number of hydro energy projects in Scotland has increased five-fold in an eight-year period and the number of solar projects has tripled.
In response to the announcement, the SNP said on 15 February in a press release that initiatives like the Community Empowerment Act and the Local Energy Challenge Fund have helped communities develop their own low carbon energy projects.
