The SNP proposed a new Green Energy Deal on 13 November to “revolutionise the renewable economy in Scotland and the rest of the UK.”
If re-elected in Scotland following the general election on 12 November, the SNP will aim to secure a deal that will:
- ensure green energy projects get the long-term certainty needed to support investment
- deliver a wave and tidal energy industrial strategy with adequate funding
- allow onshore wind to compete in Contracts for Difference auctions
- reform a “punitive transmission charging regime that discourages investment in Scotland”
- set a timescale for the delivery of the interconnectors to Scotland’s islands
- urge the ditching of Conservative Party plans to quadruple VAT on household solar panels, and
- support a diesel scrappage scheme if trading for ultra-low emission vehicles.
