SNP urges Westminster to develop carbon capture technology

The SNP has urged the UK government to revive a previous commitment to develop carbon capture technology. The party said the government promised £1bn to develop the technology in 2014 that would have resulted in the creation of 600 jobs in Peterhead, before scrapping the commitment.

On 12 June, SNP MSP Stewart Stevenson, referencing the May 2019 Committee on Climate Change net zero report, said: “The scientific advice is clear – carbon capture technology is crucial to reaching net zero, and has the benefit of creating hundreds of jobs.”
