SSEN Transmission calls for £2.2bn investment in Scotland transmission network

SSEN Transmission published its draft Network for Net Zero proposal on 27 June, urging the government to invest £2.2bn in Scotland’s transmission networks to allow it to meet net zero requirements.

The plan aims to: transport renewable electricity that powers 10mn homes; deliver 100% network reliability for homes and businesses; ensure every connection is delivered on time; deliver one third reduction in SSEN Transmission’s greenhouse gas emissions; and unlock £100mn in efficiency savings.

SSEN Transmission will now consult further with stakeholders ahead of submitting a final plan to Ofgem in December as part of its RIIO-T2 price control process.

To deliver its plans, SSEN Transmission estimates its average cost to the GB consumer over the RIIO-T2 period will be around £7 a year.
