Oil and Gas UK is seeking tenders for suppliers to specify the geological scope of a collaborative industry project under PILOT for a digital online product aimed at increasing exploration drilling and success rates in the UK.
The Millennium Atlas very successfully produced a synthesis of the petroleum geology of the central and northern North Sea and immediately became an indispensable tool for the explorationist. Industry has however come to recognise the need to update this work and to extend it in a way which acts directly to stimulate flagging exploration on the UKCS. Industry also saw the opportunity to take full advantage of subsequent technology advances to create and deliver a product which can be regularly updated and which it is calling the “21st Century Exploration Road Map” (or ‘XRM’ for short).
The XRM is a PILOT Exploration Task Force initiative which will summarise current subsurface understanding and the hydrocarbon resources potential within key areas of the UKCS by the end of 2015. The stakeholders behind this initiative include DECC, the BGS, Oil & Gas UK, NERC, CDA, exploration companies, operators and service companies.
The primary purpose of the Study is to consult with stakeholders in order to establish recommendations for the geological and geographical scope and priorities for the XRM, bearing in mind its over-arching objective – a digital product which will lead to an increase in exploration well drilling and success rates on the UKCS.
The tender seeks a qualified (geological) consultant to work with Oil & Gas UK and other stakeholder representatives over an initial period of (up to) three months to formulate and then deliver its recommendations as a final report which integrates the geological scope with the technological and commercial scope within the context of an implementation plan and budget.
The deadline for tenders is today (15 January 2014), with the project work due to start in eary March.
