Community Energy Scotland has announced that they have been awarded funding to help support community groups developing renewable energy projects. The grant comes from the Aspiring Community Fund which targets the essential stages of preparing low-carbon projects for the journey ahead that aim to generate income. This includes consolidating the planning and short to long term aspirations of those who stay in the community areas.
The Aspiring Communities Fund is supported by the European Social Fund (ESF) and Scottish Government. It is being delivered by the Social Justice and Regeneration Division and Community Energy Scotland explains that it is crucial to “enable us to run a Community Engagement Programme for community organisations throughout the Western Isles”.
Community Energy Scotland’s targets include arranging two workshops focusing on community engagement and development, as well as support for up to fifteen groups to carry out their community engagement events and expanding their energy strategies for the future.
