Conservatives pledge support to North Sea oil and gas transition

The Conservative Party published its General Election 2019 manifesto on 24 November, recognising the importance of the oil and gas industry for Scotland.

The industry employs almost 300,000 people, of whom four in 10 work in Scotland.

It will play a key role in the transition to a net zero economy, and the Conservatives will support this transition in the next Parliament with a “transformational sector deal.”

The Conservatives also pledged to invest £800mn to build the first fully deployed carbon capture storage cluster by the mid-2020s, and £500mn to help energy-intensive industries move to low-carbon techniques. The party would also invest £1bn in completing a fast-charging network to “ensure everyone is within 30 miles of a rapid electric vehicle charging station.”
