Dundee-based Twickler Industries Ltd. has taken over Fife-based steel manufacturer, Houston’s of Cupar. The group, led by Hermann Twickler, is the largest steel fabrication company in Tayside, employing more than 100 skilled engineers, and is a leading designer and fabricator of offshore and subsea equipment for use in the oil and gas industry.

Operating from a 125,000 ft2 factory beside Dundee airport, PressureFab is the only company in Scotland that designs, fabricates, tests, coats and mobilises specialist offshore containers and topside modules all under one roof.Working in conjunction with its subsidiaries, Angus Alliance Painters and R.T. Metal Services, PressureFab delivers onsite industrial coatings to Norsok and ISO 12944 standards, as well as being a specialist manufacture of piping and vessels out of stainless steel, duplex, and inconel materials.
Hermann Twickler, Managing Director, Twickler Industries, said: “We welcome the addition of Houston’s of Cupar to our growing group of companies, as brings with it subsea engineering expertise, and will also strengthen our steel fabrication capabilities by adding specialist plate rolling and forming abilities to our existing skill base.
“They already have great relationships with leading companies, and supply drilling templates, and engineered components for underwater Christmas trees, and remotely-operated vehicles used by the oil and gas industry. In addition, Houston’s of Cupar’s machine-shop facility will broaden our services even further for our current and future customers.
“We also are pleased to secure the 25 existing jobs at Houston’s of Cupar and look forward to working closely with them.”
Andy Curran, previous owner of Houston’s of Cupar, said: “I am certain that the company and staff will be in good hands with Hermann, and am also very excited at the prospect of him bringing the same type of rapid growth to Houston’s of Cupar that he has brought to Twickler Industries and its subsidiaries.”
The acquisition of Houston’s of Cupar represents Twickler Industries’ diversified strategy to grow the company through acquisitions in addition to its own rapid organic growth – the company is at present looking to recruit new workers.
In 2012, Hermann was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year by the Entrepreneurial Exchange and PressureFab was awarded Manufacturing Business of the Year and Growth Business of the Year 2013, by the Courier in association with Henderson Loggie.
