Energy supplier-switching hits new high in September

Big Six logo montageSwitching has seen the highest numbers for September in recent years, according to the latest figures from Energy UK, the trade association which represents the Big Six and other suppliers.

More than 310,000 customers switched electricity supplier in September, an increase on August’s figures when 285,730 customers switched.

Smaller providers gained 78,455 electricity accounts, 25% of all switches. This is in line with the average for the year so far.

Lawrence Slade, Chief Executive, Energy UK, said: “September’s electricity switching figures are proof of a change in behaviour when it comes to switching. Customers are no longer waiting for the weather to turn.

“With 29 suppliers in the market offering a number of deals, it is worth taking the time to shop around. There are a number of tariffs on offer that are hundreds of pounds cheaper than this time last year.”
