Former UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry who is now chairman of the Forewind Consortium has been appointed as ‘ambassador’ to the Global Offshore Wind 2014 conference being held in Glasgow this summer.

Hendry explained: As the UK already has a world leading offshore sector, it is appropriate that in 2014 we will be hosting the world’s largest dedicated offshore conference.

“Looking back at the progress made since the first Global Offshore Wind conference and exhibition in 2012, which attracted 3,500 visitors, I’m very pleased to see that we now have over 1,000 turbines installed in UK waters and close to 7GW of global capacity. It is a truly vibrant global industry, with enormous growth potential.

The event is being held on 11-12 June 2014 at the Scottish Exhibition Centre (SECC) in Glasgow.
